Run Barbados Festival 2008

This report will start with a bit of an introduction as to how we got to be here in the first place, then there will be ‘race-reports’, firstly by David and then by Sharon.  It’ll also be fairly detailed as it’s not everyday you fly part-way round the world to go running. Two years ago this past weekend David ran his first half marathon, and a year ago Sharon ran her first ‘half.’ They were both at Bedford, and were

Welsh Castles Relay – 14-15 June 2008

Once again an entry written by both Sharon and David, starting with David… After last weekends half-ironman distance triathlon in Wales last weeks running was simply a couple of easy runs and yet more carb-loading in preparation for another trip to Wales – this time as part of The Stragglers running club team who were taking part in the Welsh Castles Relay event. This is the 26th running of this relay race, which starts on Saturday morning at Caernarfon Castle

Bala Middle Distance Triathlon – 8 June 2008

This is a *huge* report, firstly written by David and then followed by Sharon’s report towards the end. Just over a year ago I took part in my first triathlon. Now it was time to step it up to something comparable to a half-ironman distance event – the Bala Middle Distance Triathlon – consisting of a 2km swim, 82km bike and 20km run. Nothing like doing things in small measures eh! “A big challenge set in an outstanding location, twice

Dorking 10 – 1 June 2008

In 2007 Sharon and I ran this race for the first time. The weather was boiling hot and it was hard work on this undulating course. We returned this year in much better weather (rather warm but not bright sunshine) looking forward to taking on this course for the second time. Firstly over to David… I’d not planned to race this one hard and wanted to treat this as a training run with a bit of a difference. Dorking is

Bognor Prom 10k – 18 May 2008

This past weekend saw us visiting my parents on the south coast of England and to take part in the 2008 Bognor Prom 10k road race. This was going to be my fifth year in succession running this race and it has to be my favourite 10k race (and course). I’ve steadily improved over the past five years and I hoped that on Sunday I’d be able to continue the trend. Because I’ve wanted to improve each year on this

BPTT Update – 01 March 2008

A fresh and breezy park met the 300 or so runners in Bushy Park on Saturday morning. I (David) planned to have an ‘moderate’ run (whatever that means) and set off at an easy pace. I believe from here on to the finish I was only overtaken by one person (who was running with a push-chair), and at the 3km mark with the wind firmly blasting us in our faces it really slowed him down so I moved ahead. I

Goring & Woodcote Lions 10k – 6 January 2008

A year ago on Sunday Sharon took part in her first ever 10k race – the Goring, Woodcote and District Lions 10k. David had planned to run the race but on the day chose not to because of injury. This time around we returned to Goring to run Sharon’s first ever “repeat” race – one year on. More on that further down the page…firstly here’s David’s account. Once again it was touch and go for me running as I managed

Brooks Brighton 10K

It’s always sunny at the seaside….isn’t it? Well, on Saturday night the Met Office inshore waters shipping forecast for Sunday was as follows… North Foreland to Selsey Bill Southerly winds will increase to reach force 6 or 7 through Saturday evening, continuing night. Wind Southwesterly 4 or 5 backing southeasterly 6 or 7. Sea state Slight or moderate becoming rough. Weather Showers, with rain later. This could only mean one thing – we’re going racing! Sharon, myself and friends Kirsty
