Mid Summer 5 – 13 July 2016

After the ‘fun’ of a beach race last month this was time to get back on the road.  I’d heard good things about the Mid Summer 5 race – mainly because you get beer and a burger at the finish – this sounded just like my kind of race.  It’s an evening race which seems to be better suited to the beer/burger idea! The weather was great although there was a little bit of a breeze.  The race starts by

Littlehampton Beach Run – 8 June 2016

Hmn, this report is a little late so it’ll be brief!  With the announcement of a race called the ‘Felpham Five’ – which is a five mile beach run very close to our house I decided to try a beach race for myself.  I’d run a trial run of the five mile route for our local race and it was fun but I wanted to see what a beach run was like in a race-type scenario. So we headed all

Bognor Prom 10k – 15 May 2016

Back to my favourite running race in the calendar (this is my 11th time taking part).  I’ve been looking forward to this one for a few months now I as love running round the local streets with 1500 others and getting tons (and tons) of support from the amazing supporters out on the course.  It really is a great atmosphere to be a part of. Training this year has gone well and the past few weeks I’ve been able to get my

Three Forts Challenge – 1 May 2016

A year ago we had friends staying with us for the weekend and whilst I spent all day Sunday riding 100+ miles around the Isle of Wight in the rain at a cycling event our friends took part in the Three Forts Challenge – a rather hilly marathon (or half marathon) held near Worthing (about 15 miles from home). This year our friends were coming back to stay and I really didn’t fancy such a tough day in the saddle –

Bognor Regis Duathlon – 24 April 2016

Seeing as though I’ve not swum since being in Kona in October of last year (yes, that’s over six months ago!!) I think a duathlon would be a good way of getting into multi-sport this year!  Run-bike-run sounds right up my street.  I’ve done no swimming, I’ve hardly done any cycling and have been pretty consistent with my running.  Perfect. I’ve only taken part in one duathlon before – on holiday in Lanzarote in 2007.  The last ‘brick’ session (run

Not The London Marathon 2016 (David)

In 2009 it was suggested that a social run around the Bushy parkrun 5k course a few weeks out from the London Marathon would be a great little motivator for those long runs and also to get to share a long run with people who are running different distances – so not just for the 20+ miler club!  Not The London Marathon was born!  You can read about the 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 events elsewhere on this blog. This run is a great social gathering

2015 Training Summary (David)

Well… this won’t take long to write… Each year along with many other people we like to (or perhaps don’t really like to) look back at the previous years training and racing.  I’ve done it on this site since 2007 so this is my eighth annual summary.  Here we go… The year began with a dodgy ankle which was causing me problems running any sort of distance. That was a negative.  The positive was that I had the Ironman World Championship

Kona Diaries 2015 – Race Day – Post Race and What’s Next

This is the fifth and final part of a number of posts describing my day at the 2015 Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.  Previous parts are pre-race, swim, bike and run.  I am planning on creating a little video about my day but you’ll have to wait for that. So without further ado, here’s how my day finished off and what I have planned for 2016 and beyond. Once I’d shown my ‘catchers’ that I was able to walk without assistance I headed
